A warm bath will always provide relaxation and comfort to the mind, body, and soul.

Chamomile, one of the oldest and most widely used herbs, has long been recognized for its many health benefits, including its calming effects.

As such, a chamomile bath salt soak can be an incredibly soothing and one I love to do all the time.

Not only does a chamomile bath provide a comforting and calming effect, but it can also help improve your skin, reduce stress, and even help you sleep better.

I always loved the smell of chamomile but when I started to learn about all the benefits besides just calming me down, I knew I had to try to make a chamomile bath salts recipe!

In this post, I’ll share all the chamomile bath benefits, and how to make your own DIY chamomile bath salts.

Chamomile Bath Benefits

There are actually quite a few chamomile bath salts benefits! I will list some of my top favorite ones:

1. Soothes Sore Muscles

One of the most powerful benefits of chamomile is its ability to soothe sore muscles. Taking a chamomile bath can help to relax tight and aching muscles, allowing you to relax and find relief.

The natural anti-inflammatory properties of chamomile help to reduce inflammation and reduce the pain associated with it. The warm water also helps relax the muscles, allowing for further relief.

In addition, chamomile helps the body release endorphins, the hormones that make us feel good, which can further help to reduce the pain and discomfort associated with sore muscles.

I had no idea how powerful Epsom salt with chamomile was for my muscles until I tried it! Now my baths always include this powerhouse flower.

2. Reduces Inflammation

Getting a chamomile bath is great for reducing inflammation. Chamomile’s anti-inflammatory properties are due to several of its active compounds, including chamazulene and α-bisabolol [source].

Both of these compounds have anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant properties, which can help reduce inflammation and soothe skin irritation.

Chamomile Bath Salts Recipe

Now that you know all the benefits of taking a chamomile bath, here is how to make your own bath salts with chamomile!

This recipe makes between 4 to 8 ounces, which can give you multiple baths.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Pour the chamomile flowers and Epsom salt into an herb grinder. Grind until it is mixed and powdered down. 

2. Add in your drops of essential oils. 

3. Pour into a container. To use, add in a couple of tablespoons to a 1/2 cup into your bath with warm water.

Tips and Tricks for Chamomile Bath Salts

  • You can use any salt you want. Sometimes I use Epsom salt, while other times I prefer Himalayan salt.
  • One of the best tips I have for these bath salts is to use a muslin cloth bag and keep it inside. That way, you don’t have to fish out the chamomile flowers from the water. It is life changing!
  • Essential oils are optional, but I like to add some to increase the benefits.
  • If you don’t have a grinder, you can always leave the flowers whole. You will just need to fish them out of the bath when you are finished. 
  • You can easily make these lavender and chamomile bath salts by adding lavender flowers too!

Chamomile Bath Salts

Yield: 4 to 8 ounces

Materials

  • ½ cup chamomile flowers
  • ½ cup Epsom salt
  • 10-15 drops of Chamomile Essential Oil (optional)
  • Herb or Coffee Grinder
  • 4 ounce jar

Instructions

  1. Pour the chamomile flowers and Epsom salt into an herb grinder. Grind until it is mixed and powdered down.
  2. Add in your drops of essential oils.
  3. Pour into a container. To use, add in a couple of tablespoons to a 1/2 cup into your bath with warm water.

Notes

  • You can use any salt you want. Sometimes I use Epsom salt, while other times I prefer Himalayan salt.
