Easy DIY Coffee Soap Recipe
The smell of coffee in the morning is one of those things that just feels comforting. I always love to visit my grandma’s house and smell that every morning.
Even if you don’t drink it, there’s something about that warm, rich scent that wakes you up a little and makes everything feel cozy. That’s me!
A while back, I learned all about how amazing coffee is for your skin, I’ve been using it in everything I can. From a coffee infused oil to homemade coffee eye patches.
This time around, I made a DIY coffee soap and it was SO easy to make I had to share! It’s simple, it smells amazing, and the good news is, it actually does quite a bit for your skin too.
If you’ve never tried coffee soap before, this is such an easy place to start!

Coffee Soap Benefits
Coffee soap has so many little benefits packed into one bar. It’s one of those simple swaps that feels really doable, especially if you’re just getting into more natural skincare.
Here are some of the main reasons people love it:
- Supports smoother, younger-looking skin: Coffee is rich in antioxidants, which help protect your skin and soften the look of fine lines over time [source].
- Helps with acne-prone skin: It can help calm inflammation and keep pores clearer, which may reduce breakouts. This is why I love it in my coffee face scrub!
- Gently exfoliates dead skin: The coffee grounds work as a natural scrub, removing dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling soft and refreshed.
- Reduces redness and irritation: Coffee has soothing properties that can help calm sensitive or irritated skin [source].
- Gives your skin a refreshed, energized feel: The scent alone is enough to wake you up a bit, but one study even showed that people who smelled coffee before having a dental procedure were naturally calmer for their appointment than those who did not [source].
- May improve the look of cellulite: Coffee is often used to temporarily tighten and smooth the skin [source].
- Helps calm inflammation: Coffee contains compounds that help reduce inflammation in the skin [source].

DIY Melt and Pour Coffee Soap Recipe
One of my favorite things about this recipe is how simple it is.
You don’t need anything fancy, and it’s a really fun one to make if you’re just getting started with DIY skincare!
Makes about 3 1/2 bars of soap if using the same mold.
Ingredients
- 5 ounces shea butter melt and pour soap base
- 15 drops of coffee essential oil
- 2 tablespoons ground coffee
- Circle silicone mold

Instructions
Cut up the melt and pour soap base into small squares. Melt in a double boiler.

Once melted, stir in the ground coffee.

Add in your essential oils and stir to combine.

Pour into the silicone mold and wait a few hours for them to get hard.

Unmold and enjoy!

Notes
- Some of the coffee will settle to the bottom of the soap bars. If you want it to be throughout, use a suspension soap base. You can also strain out the coffee if you don’t want it in the soap.
- Any essential oils work. I like using coffee and a beauty within one when I use it on my face.
How to Use Coffee Soap
You can use coffee soap just like any other bar! Wet the bar in the shower, lather it in your hands or directly on your skin, and rinse.
If you’re using it as a scrub, you can gently rub it in circular motions before rinsing off.

Are There Any Side Effects?
For most people, coffee soap is very gentle, but there are a couple things to keep in mind.
The coffee grounds can feel a little rough if you have sensitive skin, so it’s best to start gently and see how your skin reacts. Different skin types prefer more exfoliation while some prefer less.
Also, caffeine can slightly constrict blood vessels, which may cause mild redness for some people.
If your skin is very sensitive, using it a few times a week instead of daily is usually a better fit 🙂

Final Thoughts
Homemade coffee soap is one of those simple swaps that feels a little special, but is still really practical.
You’re using something familiar, something you probably already have in your kitchen, and turning it into a skincare product you made yourself!
That’s honestly one of my favorite things about learning herbal and natural living. Once you realize you can make these things on your own, it changes everything.
You don’t need a huge collection of ingredients or expensive products to get started. Just a few simple things, and a willingness to try 🙂
Let me know if you try it!
