Best Homemade Burn Salve Recipe

Need a natural burn soother? Learn how to make this homemade burn salve to help your entire family!

Burns are one of the most common household injuries. While most minor burns can be treated at home with basic first aid, more severe burns may require medical attention.

For mild to moderate burns, a homemade herbal salve for burns can help promote healing and provide soothing relief.

This homemade healing salve works great for just about anything. While we love it for our summer sunburns, we make sure to always have one tin on hand. It can be used for just about anything, making it one of the best homemade salves you can make.

This easy burn salve recipe takes just a few simple ingredients that many people already have in their kitchens or bathrooms.

Here is my super easy homemade burn cream recipe and the benefits you can get from all the ingredients!

Benefits of this Homemade Burn Salve

In my burn salve home remedy, I use lavender, aloe vera, comfrey, and calendula. Here are some of the top benefits to each of these ingredients:

Lavender

  • Has analgesic, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties to relieve pain and prevent infection
  • Aids wound healing and skin cell regeneration
  • Reduces scarring due to its collagen-boosting effects
  • Has a soothing, calming scent that can aid relaxation

Aloe Vera Powder

  • Soothes inflamed and irritated skin
  • Contains polysaccharides that encourage skin repair
  • Helps heal burns faster with less scarring
  • Hydrates and moisturizes damaged skin tissue

Comfrey

  • Long used traditionally to treat burns and promote healing
  • Contains allantoin which stimulates new cell growth
  • Has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties
  • Helps rebuild healthy skin and prevent scarring

Calendula

  • Powerful anti-inflammatory from calendula flowers
  • Encourages collagen production and wound closure
  • Has antimicrobial properties to prevent infection
  • Improves blood flow to the area to oxygenate skin cells

Using these ingredients together makes this an incredible healing salve perfect to soothe burns, fight bacteria, reduce pain, speed up recovery, and improve the appearance of healed skin.

Their anti-inflammatory, cell-regenerating, and collagen-stimulating effects make them ideal for burn relief and recovery, and is the best burn salve you can make, in my opinion.

How to Make Homemade Salve for Burns

Now that you know the ingredients, here is how to make your own DIY aloe burn cream! This healing ointment recipe is perfect for summer sun burns:

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Add in your aloe vera powder, comfrey leaves, lavender, and calendula all in the jar, trying to keep it about halfway full.

2. Pour the avocado oil into the glass jar, filling it and making sure everything is covered.

3. Put the lid on and keep it covered for 4 to 6 weeks to infuse the oil. Shake the jar every day.

4. After the infusion period, strain the oil through a coffee filter or coffee press.

5. In a double boiler or microwave, melt the beeswax and infused oil slowly.

6. Allow it to cool slightly and then add a few drops of lavender essential oil.

7. Pour the mixture into small tins and let cool for a few hours or overnight.

Notes

  • This recipe yields approximately 6 to 8 ounces of salve.
  • The salve can be stored in a cool, dry place for up to six months.
  • Be sure to label your salve with the ingredients and the date it was made.
  • To test the consistency of the salve, place a small amount on the back of your hand and let it cool. If it’s too soft, add more beeswax; if it’s too hard, add more oil. I like it softer to apply to sunburns carefully.
