How to Infuse Herbs into Soap

In this lavender rosemary melt and pour soap recipe, I use dried lavender and rosemary to create a natural, homemade herbal soap.

Using dried herbs infuses the soap with the wonderful scents and benefits of these plants.

Lavender is known for its ability to promote relaxation and sleep, while also helping to soothe skin irritations. Rosemary is acclaimed for its stimulating and energizing properties that can help improve focus and memory.

This soap brings together these two complementary herbs for a soothing yet invigorating experience.

Many people leave in herbs and flowers in and on the top of the soap. However, most herbs will mold and are not great for the soap.

Infusing the herbs and flowers into the soap base is a great alternative! You get both the benefits and the incredible smells from infusing the soaps!

The best way to infuse herbs into soap is to melt your soap base in a double broiler with the herbs. Keep it on low setting for about an hour or so to really get the benefits.

How to Use Lavender Rosemary Soap

Here are some tips on how to use a lavender rosemary soap:

  • For the Shower – Lather the soap in your hands and massage it over your body as you shower. Let the soap sit on your skin for a few minutes before rinsing to allow the herbs to fully infuse their benefits. The steam from the shower will also help release the essential oils from the herbs.
  • For the Bath – Add a few shavings of the soap to your bath water and swirl around before getting in. Soaking in the tub with lavender rosemary soap is an incredibly relaxing experience. For an extra soothing experience, tie some sprigs of fresh lavender and rosemary together and place the bundle under the running bath water.
  • For Hands and Feet – Keep a bar of the lavender rosemary hand soap at your sink to wash hands and feet. The antiseptic and antimicrobial properties of the herbs make it beneficial for cleaning hands. And massaging it into feet can relieve sore, tired muscles while also fighting odors.
  • For the Face – The lavender is gentle enough for daily facial cleansing for many skin types and provides anti-inflammatory benefits.
  • For Shaving – Use the soap to lather up before shaving your legs or face. The slick lather helps provide a close shave, while the oils and herbs soothe and calm any irritation.
  • For Skin Irritations – Rub a bit of wet soap directly on places like bug bites, acne breakouts or eczema patches to reduce inflammation, pain and itchiness.
  • For Hair – Because rosemary and lavender are so beneficial for your hair, use this as a shampoo bar soap and enjoy having smooth, soft, and healthy hair! It can also make your hair grow faster too!
