Reusable Homemade Cleaning Wipes Recipe

A few summers ago, I remember wiping down my counters for what felt like the hundredth time that day, sticky hands, snack crumbs, the usual. I grabbed a container of wipes and then instantly knew that I would hate the smell and how they made my hands feel.

Clorox wipes and Lysol wipes were filled with harsh chemicals that hurt my body and lungs, so I knew I needed to make my own homemade cleaning wipes.

That was around the time I started swapping things out in our home and learning how to make simple versions myself.

And the good news is, this is one of the easiest swaps you can make! You don’t need anything fancy, and once you try it, you’ll see what I mean and want them all the time!

Here is my simple reusable homemade cleaning wipes recipe!

Why I Love Making My Own Cleaning Wipes

One of my favorite things about this DIY cleaning wipes recipe is how simple it is! You’re just combining a few basic ingredients you probably already recognize, and that’s it 🙂

I also love that you can reuse the cloths over and over again. It’s less waste, less cost, and you always have wipes ready to go for germs and messes.

I keep a container on the counter and reach for it all day long. And now that my kids are older, I don’t worry about them helping too because there are NO toxic chemicals!

Way better than paper towels!

Why These Ingredients Work

Here is a brief bit about why I use each of the ingredients in this recipe:

  • Rubbing alcohol helps clean and disinfect surfaces from some bacteria
  • Castile soap breaks down grease and dirt
  • Distilled water dilutes everything so it’s safe and easy to use
  • Essential oil add a fresh scent and some have natural cleansing properties too like tea tree or lemon!

Homemade Cleaning Wipes Recipe

Here is a simple DIY natural cleaning wipes recipe so you can make your own:

Ingredients

Instructions

Add rubbing alcohol and water to the large container. Then add in the castile soap to the container as well.

Drop about 30 drops of essential oil and mix well.

Once it is all mixed together, add in the wash cloths. If this mixture does not cover the wash cloths completely, you can add more water and rubbing alcohol.

Once these are used you can add them back to the solution. When the solution is all used up, you can add more of the ingredients to the container.

Notes + Tips

  • Store your wipes in a sealed container with a lid to keep them from drying out
  • Wash cloths regularly to keep everything fresh
  • If the solution runs low, just mix up another batch right in the same container!
  • Any essential oils work!
  • Add a label so everyone knows they can use these wipes!

If you enjoy making your own cleaners, my DIY Natural Cleaners eBook has a bunch of recipes like this that are just as simple 🙂

How to Use

Just grab a cloth and wipe down your surfaces like you normally would!

I use mine on:

  • Kitchen counters
  • Bathroom sinks
  • High chairs
  • Sticky spots on the floor

After you use a cloth, you can toss it in the wash and reuse it, or place it back in the container if you prefer to keep them all together.

Each of these are mainly plant-based ingredients, but some have some synthetic ingredients as well. Just make sure to look at the ingredients to see if they are the right fit for you!
