DIY Beeswax Candle

Making your own DIY beeswax candle is a fun and easy way to create a natural, non-toxic candle that burns cleanly and fills your home with a gentle, soothing scent.

Unlike paraffin candles, which can release harmful toxins, beeswax candles purify the air, burn longer, and emit a warm, natural glow.

Plus, they’re customizable—you can add your favorite essential oils or even color them for a unique touch.

I love beeswax candles, especially for how easy they are to make! Here is everything you need to know to make your own DIY beeswax candles.

Why Choose Beeswax for Candles?

Here are some of the benefits of making beeswax candles:

  • Burns Cleanly – Beeswax doesn’t produce soot or release harmful chemicals like paraffin candles.
  • Purifies the Air – It naturally emits negative ions, helping to remove toxins and allergens from the air.
  • Long-Lasting – Beeswax candles burn slower and longer than traditional candles.
  • Non-Toxic & Eco-Friendly – 100% natural, biodegradable, and free from synthetic additives.

DIY Beeswax Candle Recipe

Here is how to make your own homemade beeswax candle from my recipe:

Ingredients

ingredients for beeswax candle

Instructions

In a double boiler or a heat-safe container over medium-low heat, melt the beeswax slowly. Stir occasionally to ensure even melting.

melting the beeswax

While the beeswax is melting, place the wick in the center of the candle jar, securing it with a wick holder or wick sticker.

placing the wick in the jar

Once the beeswax is fully melted, remove from heat and let it cool slightly before adding the essential oils. Stir well to evenly distribute the scent.

adding in essential oils to melted beeswax

Carefully pour the melted beeswax into the glass jar, making sure the wick stays centered. Let the candle sit undisturbed until fully hardened.

pouring the melted wax in candle jar

If the candle caves in at the top, melt a little extra beeswax and pour a thin layer over the surface to smooth it out.

Once fully set, trim the wick to about ¼ inch for an even burn.

Tips & Tricks

  • Any essential oil works! Try lavender for relaxation, citrus for energy, or cedarwood for a cozy, woodsy scent.
  • Beeswax naturally varies in color. Use yellow, white, or colored waxes to customize your candle.
  • Beeswax holds fragrance lightly. Use more essential oil or experiment with natural candle-safe fragrance oils for a more intense aroma. Learn how to make your candles smell stronger here.
  • Let the candle cure for 24 hours before burning for the best scent throw.
