DIY Pine Body Butter

Last December, after a particularly long walk in the park behind our house, I came home with wind-chapped cheeks and dry hands that just wouldn’t stop stinging. The wind had been biting, but the scent of pine all around me somehow made it feel comforting.

That night, I was inspired to whip up a body butter with the resinous scent of pine, hoping to capture the soothing, forest-like calm that always seems to come when I’m out in nature.

The result was better than I expected, and it’s now my favorite winter remedy for dry skin and tired minds.

If you’re someone who loves that grounding, fresh-from-the-forest aroma and wants a deeply nourishing skin salve that’s easy to make at home, this DIY pine body butter might just become your new seasonal staple.

Benefits of Pine Needles in Skincare

Pine (Pinus spp.) essential oil and infused oil are known for their invigorating, antimicrobial, and clarifying properties.

Traditionally used in salves for sore muscles and respiratory blends, pine oil is also wonderful for supporting skin health, especially in the colder months when our skin tends to get dry, flaky, and sensitive.

Here are a few reasons I love working with pine in body butter:

  • Grounding & Uplifting Aroma: The scent of pine can feel emotionally refreshing, helping to lift foggy moods and create a sense of calm strength. It is one of my favorite smells!
  • Antimicrobial: Pine has natural cleansing properties, which can be especially helpful if you’re dealing with minor skin irritations or wintertime scratches.
  • Circulatory Support: It’s lightly stimulating to the skin, which may help increase circulation and give your skin a warm, healthy glow.

Safety Note: Always dilute essential oils properly and do a patch test, especially if you have sensitive skin. Pine is generally safe for topical use in low concentrations, but it can be too strong if overused. Avoid during pregnancy unless advised by a professional.

I love applying this after a warm shower, especially on my legs and arms where my skin gets the driest. It soaks in beautifully and leaves a subtle, foresty scent that lingers in the best way.
