DIY Holiday Lip Scrub
There’s something so simple and soothing about taking five minutes to care for your lips in the middle of a busy holiday season.
I started making this scrub a few years ago when I noticed how dry and cracked my lips would get every winter. I had tried so many store-bought scrubs, but they always felt a little too harsh or full of ingredients I didn’t love. So I made my own!
Now, this little jar of festive lip scrub is one of my favorite winter routines. It’s easy to whip up, makes a thoughtful homemade gift, and gives your lips the love they need when the cold settles in.

Benefits of the Ingredients
This scrub is full of gentle, nourishing ingredients that work together to exfoliate and protect:
- Sugar: A natural exfoliant that’s gentle on the delicate skin of the lips. It helps slough away dead skin and leaves your lips smooth and refreshed.
- Himalayan Salt: A touch of this mineral-rich salt adds a little extra grit and trace nutrients. It also gives the scrub a slightly more spa-like feel. I’ve tried some without th salt and it’s just not the same!
- Carrier Oil (like Jojoba): Deeply moisturizing and lightweight, jojoba helps restore moisture and keep lips soft long after the scrub is rinsed away. You can use any nourishing oil you have on hand.
- Winter Spice Essential Oil Blend: It smells like everything cozy and cheerful. You can use any essential oil you want, but this is my all time winter favorite.
- Red Mica Powder (optional): Adds a subtle festive tint. Totally optional, but it makes the scrub feel extra special and gift-worthy.
Safety Note: Avoid using essential oils like cinnamon bark or clove bud at high concentrations. A little goes a long way, and it’s important to dilute them well in the carrier oil before applying to sensitive skin.

How to Make a Holiday Lip Scrub
This recipe makes about 1 ounce, perfect for a small glass jar or tin!
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3 teaspoons carrier oil (like jojoba)
- ½ tablespoon Himalayan salt
- 4 drops Winter Spice essential oil blend
- Red mica powder (optional)
- 1 ounce jars

Instructions:
In a small bowl, mix your carrier oil with the essential oil blend.

In another bowl, combine sugar and Himalayan salt. Blend up the Himalayan salt if it is coarse first!
Pour the oil mixture into the sugar-salt blend and stir well.
Add a pinch of mica powder for a festive touch, if using.

Transfer to a small airtight container.
To use: Gently rub a small amount onto your lips in a circular motion, then rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Notes
- You can swap the jojoba oil for other skin-loving oils like sweet almond, avocado, or even olive oil. Just make sure to pick one that feels good on your skin and isn’t too heavy. Sometimes I like using my lavender infused oil!
- If your Himalayan salt is very coarse, pulse it a few times in a blender or coffee grinder before using. You want a fine texture that won’t scratch the lips but still gives a little boost to the scrub.
- The mica powder is completely optional, but it does add a touch of fun. I like to use it when I’m gifting these, especially with a ribbon and handwritten label.
- Always patch test your essential oil blend on a small area of skin before using it on your lips. Even diluted, some oils can be strong, especially cinnamon or clove. If you’re sensitive, consider a milder blend like orange and vanilla.
- This recipe doubles easily if you’re making several jars as gifts. I often make a batch or two before holiday gatherings so I can tuck one into a little care package or stocking.
