DIY Pine Shower Steamers
There are days I don’t have time for a long, peaceful bath, but I still crave that grounding, herbal comfort. That’s when these pine shower steamers come in.
I first made them one January morning using leftover pine needles from our Christmas celebrations. The scent of pine mixed with the warm steam from the shower, it was like walking into the woods after a fresh rain.
I absolutely love the smell of pine needles, so I knew I would instantly enjoy these DIY pine shower steamers. But they are also so beneficial too!
These are easy to make, simple to store, and they bring a foresty calm to even the busiest mornings. Here is how to make your own!

Benefits of Pine in the Shower
Pine has a way of bringing the forest right into your bathroom. Every time I use it, I’m reminded of walking through tall evergreens after a rain, the air smells fresh, clean, and deeply grounding. That’s exactly the feeling pine can bring into your shower.
Known for its clarifying scent, pine essential oil helps open the lungs and clear the mind. It’s a gentle but powerful support during cold season, especially when you’re feeling stuffy or worn down.
Just a few moments of breathing in pine-scented steam can help ease congestion and bring a sense of calm energy to your day. It is also gentler for kids than eucalyptus or peppermint.
There’s also something emotionally steadying about pine. It’s both refreshing and comforting at once. On days when I feel scattered or overwhelmed, using pine in the shower feels like hitting a reset button, it reminds me to slow down, breathe deeply, and come back to myself.
When I include dried pine needles, it adds even more beauty and grounding. The heat of the shower gently coaxes out their scent, making the whole experience feel like a mini forest retreat. It’s a small ritual that makes a big difference in how I start (or end) my day.

DIY Pine Shower Steamers Recipe
Here is a simple pine shower steamer recipe:
Ingredients
- Round Mold
- 1/4 cup Pine Needles
- 15 drops Pine Essential Oil
- 1/2 cup Epsom Salt
- 1/2 cup Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon water

Instructions
Add the Epsom salt and baking soda to a mixing bowl.
Add in a teaspoon of water (You want the mixture to have a paste consistency so you might need a little more water but add it a few drops at a time).
Next add about 15 drops of pine essential oil.

Add about ¼ cup of pine needles.

Mix together and then press firmly into the circle molds.

Allow for about 24 hours for the steamers to harden. Store in an airtight container.

How To Use
Place one steamer on the floor of your shower, away from the direct stream of water but close enough that it gets splashed.
As the steamer dissolves, it releases the soothing scent of pine into the warm steam. Breathe deeply and enjoy.
These are my go-to when I feel a cold coming on or when I’ve been running around all day and need to come back to center.
My kids love the scent too, sometimes they’ll ask for a “piney shower” after playing outside.
