Homemade Gingerbread Soap
I recently made a gingerbread sugar scrub and body butter that smelled so amazing, I knew I needed a homemade gingerbread soap too!
While I don’t really care for making gingerbread houses and eating them, I absolutely LOVE the smell of gingerbread! Ginger cookies are quite delicious too.
This recipe has become a wintertime favorite for my kids, both for personal use and gifting. The scent is incredible, the process is calming, and the final result is a gentle, skin-loving soap that feels just right for winter.
Here is my recipe in case you want to make some fun ones with your kids too!

Why This Soap Is So Special
Melt-and-pour soap is one of the easiest ways to get started with DIY skincare. No lye, no complicated steps, just melt, mix, pour, and let it set. Perfect for beginners and even fun to make with kids (supervised, of course!).
Adding ground spices not only gives the soap a warm, natural color but also brings a gentle exfoliating texture. And the essential oils? That’s where the scent of gingerbread really comes to life! I found the PERFECT blend for this soap.

How to Make Homemade Gingerbread Soap
This recipe makes about 5-6 small soap bars, depending on your mold size.
Ingredients:
- ½ pound melt-and-pour soap base
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 30 drops gingerbread essential oil blend
- Gingerbread soap mold

Instructions:
Cut the soap base into small cubes and place them in a heat-safe bowl. Add the ginger and cinnamon.
Melt the mixture using a double boiler stirring frequently until smooth. I actually let mine infuse for an hour to give it a dark color and deeper smell.

Let cool slightly, just enough so it’s warm but not too hot to add your essential oils. Stir in the essential oils until well combined.

Pour into soap molds and allow to cool at room temperature for several hours until fully hardened.

Once set, remove from molds and wrap in parchment or plastic wrap to keep them fresh.

Notes:
- If you’re not a fan of the spice bits, you can strain them out before pouring the soap into molds. Either way, the aroma will remain beautifully warm and festive. I leave mine in for a gentle exfoliation!
- If you want to blend a few different essential oils together, try 12 drops Ginger essential oil, 8 drops Cinnamon Bark (or Cassia), 5 drops Clove Bud, 3 drops Nutmeg, 2 drops Vanilla Oleoresin

Perfect for Gifting
These soaps make heartfelt, handmade gifts. Pair one with a sugar scrub or a bundle of bath salts for a sweet spa-themed stocking stuffer.
Label each soap with a handwritten tag, something like “Warm Wishes” or “Gingerbread Joy.”
My kids loved giving this handmade soaps for gifts this year!
