DIY Snowflake Sugar Scrub Bars
Last winter, while my kids were helping me wrap handmade Christmas gifts, we tucked a few of these Snowflake Sugar Scrub Bars into little muslin bags for our family and friends. They were such a hit!
I even had someone ask for the recipe because her hands had never felt so soft. There’s just something sweet and comforting about gifting something you made with your own hands, especially when it smells like the holiday season.
If you’re looking for a simple yet thoughtful DIY gift, these DIY snowflake sugar scrub bars are one of my favorite things to make during the holiday season.
They look beautiful in a snowflake mold, they smell amazing, and they leave skin feeling soft and nourished, perfect for winter dryness.

The Benefits of the Ingredients
This recipe keeps it simple with only a handful of ingredients, but each one plays an important role.
Shea Butter is incredibly moisturizing. It’s rich in fatty acids and vitamins that soothe and condition dry skin. I love using it in winter skincare because it’s gentle and doesn’t clog pores, yet still provides that deep hydration we all need this time of year.
Beeswax adds structure to the bars, helping them hold their shape. It also has emollient properties that create a light protective barrier on the skin, locking in moisture without feeling greasy.

Sugar is the exfoliant in this recipe. It gently scrubs away dead skin cells and encourages circulation, making skin feel smoother and look more vibrant.
Essential Oils not only bring that festive holiday scent, they also offer their own skin benefits. Peppermint is cooling and invigorating, orange brings a bright, cheerful aroma, and vanilla adds a warm sweetness that feels like a cozy hug.
You can swap these out for any holiday blend you love, but this combination is one I come back to year after year.

How to Make Snowflake Sugar Scrub Bars
This recipe makes about 6 bars, depending on your mold size.
Ingredients:
- 1/6 cup shea butter
- 1/8 cup beeswax
- ½ cup sugar
- 4 drops peppermint essential oil (omit if using with kids)
- 4 drops orange essential oil
- 2 drops vanilla essential oil
- Snowflake silicone mold

Instructions:
In a double boiler, slowly melt the shea butter and beeswax together. Stir occasionally until completely liquid. Let it cool slightly for a few minutes.

Add in your essential oils.

Stir in the sugar until fully combined.
Spoon the mixture into your snowflake mold and press down gently.

Let sit for 24 hours, or until fully hardened, before removing from the mold.
To Use: Gently rub one bar over wet skin in the bath or shower. Rinse off, and enjoy that soft, smooth feeling.

Notes:
- These bars are best stored in a cool, dry place. I keep mine in a lidded jar under the bathroom sink.
- You can wrap them in parchment or tuck them into a gift bag with a handwritten tag for easy gifting.
- If you enjoy making things like this, you might love the Tallow Recipe eBook, it’s full of nourishing DIYs for your skin and home.
- If you feel extra fancy, you can add mica powder to change the colors of the snowflakes as well. Just start small; a little bit goes a long way!

Final Thoughts
There’s something so grounding about crafting your own body care, especially when it’s made to give away.
These Snowflake Sugar Scrub Bars are more than just a pretty gift, they’re a little gesture of care, a way to say “you matter” during the hustle of the season.
And as always, remember: natural living is a journey, not a race. Just start with what you have, try something new, and enjoy the process.
If you try these, I’d love to hear how they turn out, or how you’ve made them your own. Wishing you a cozy, joy-filled season.
