If you’re looking for a simple yet effective way to care for your skin, this homemade beef tallow face cream is a beautiful place to start.
Tallow and castor oil work together to deliver deep hydration, support skin elasticity, and promote a healthy glow.
I ran out of my rose tallow face cream, so I needed to make some more. I was using castor oil separately, so I decided to put it together and that’s how this tallow moisturizer was born.
It is by far my FAVORITE face cream ever! It is so hydrating, nourishing, and makes my skin feel and look so firm and young!
So I knew I had to share my latest recipe with you! Learn all the benefits of using castor oil and tallow for your face, along with my super simple castor oil and tallow face cream recipe.

Benefits of Castor Oil for Skincare
Castor oil has long been used as a healing and toning oil in traditional skincare.
It contains ricinoleic acid, which offers anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits while supporting healthy circulation and collagen production.
Here are a few more of it’s amazing benefits:
- Promotes skin tightening and elasticity
- Helps soothe inflammation and reduce puffiness
- Deeply moisturizes without clogging pores
- Supports lymphatic flow and natural detoxification
It’s especially great for delicate facial skin and works beautifully in recipes focused on firming and renewal.

Benefits of Tallow in Skincare
Tallow is one of the most traditional and time-honored skincare ingredients even though it seems to be “trendy” right now.
When sourced from grass-fed beef, it offers a rich array of vitamins and fatty acids that mimic our skin’s natural sebum.
Here are a few of my favorite benefits of using tallow for skincare:
- Provides long-lasting hydration
- Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K
- Supports barrier repair and resilience
- Gentle and non-irritating for sensitive skin
- Absorbs easily without leaving a greasy residue (my favorite benefit!!)
I love tallow, and have been using it in a rose tallow face cream for a while, as well as an anti aging cream.

Tallow and Castor Oil Face Cream Recipe
Now you know some of the benefits, here is my super easy castor oil tallow face cream recipe! This will make around 6 ounces.
Ingredients
- ½ cup beef tallow (learn how to render your own!)
- 2 tablespoons castor oil
- 30 drops essential oil (optional, this is a 1% dilution, I recommend frankincense

Instructions
Add the tallow to a mixing bowl and whip on medium speed until light and fluffy.

Slowly pour in the castor oil while continuing to whip.

If using essential oils, add them last and whip again to combine.

Transfer to a clean jar and store in a cool, dry place.
Notes
- You can use herb-infused tallow or oils for added skin benefits. I love infusing my tallow with lavender or calendula.
- Any essential oil that supports skin like lavender, frankincense, or helichrysum can be used.
- Apply to clean skin. A small amount goes a long way!

How to Use
Use a small amount on clean, dry skin as part of your morning or evening routine.
I love using this cream on my face, neck, and even around the eyes. It’s especially helpful during colder months or after too much sun exposure.
This cream is so effective, it has earned a permanent spot on my shelf. Even my husband uses it daily!
I use it nightly on my face and neck, and it’s the only thing that keeps my skin balanced through both dry winters and hot summers. I’ve even used it on my kids when their skin needs a little extra care!
