Why Make Your Own Lotion Bars?

Commercial skincare products are often loaded with synthetic fragrances and harsh chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin.

By making your own lotion bars, you have full control over the ingredients, ensuring they’re safe, natural, and tailored to your preferences.

Plus, there’s something uniquely satisfying about crafting your own skincare products—especially ones infused with the calming aroma of roses.

You will be hooked and want to make everything at home; I know I certainly did!

Benefits of Key Ingredients

Here are some of the benefits from the ingredients I used to make these gorgeous lotion bars:

Rose Infused Oil: Rose petals are rich in antioxidants and natural oils that hydrate and soothe the skin. Infusing a carrier oil with rose petals captures their benefits, leaving your skin feeling soft and nourished. My favorite way to get the benefits of rose!

Shea Butter: Known for its deep moisturizing properties, shea butter helps to heal and protect dry, cracked skin. It’s also rich in vitamins A and E, which support skin health.

Beeswax: Beeswax acts as a natural barrier, locking in moisture and protecting the skin from environmental factors. It also gives the lotion bars their solid form.

Pink Kaolin Clay (Optional): This gentle clay is perfect for sensitive skin. It not only gives your lotion bars a subtle pink hue but also adds a touch of texture too.

Essential Oils: Adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil blend enhances the sensory experience and provides additional skin-loving benefits. For these bars, I used Simply Earth’s Love Blend for a sweet, floral aroma.

Instructions

Add dried rose petals to a clean glass jar and pour enough carrier oil over them to fully submerge the petals. Seal the jar and let it sit in a cool, dark place for six weeks, shaking it occasionally.

Once infused, strain the oil through a fine mesh or cheesecloth.

Notes

  • If roses aren’t your favorite, feel free to experiment with other dried flowers and essential oil blends to create your ideal scent.
  • While avocado oil is deeply nourishing, you can use any carrier oil you prefer, such as sweet almond oil or jojoba oil.
  • Look for molds with fun shapes to make your lotion bars even more delightful to use or give as gifts.
  • Essential oils are optional. I used a Love Blend from Simply Earth.
  • The pink clay is optional, but it helps give it a more pink color.
  • If it is not hard enough, use more beeswax. If it is too hard, use less!

How to Use Rose Lotion Bar

Make sure your hands are dry. Then rub gently in your hands. Your naturally warm hands will make the bar melt enough to give you some lotion!

I like to keep mine in small tins to help preserve it.
