DIY Essential Oil Perfume Recipes: 5 Blends for Roll-Ons & Sprays
Natural scents you’ll actually want to wear, these DIY essential oil perfume recipes are so easy to make and will keep you smelling fresh all day long! I was surprised how long they lasted!
If you’ve ever walked down the beauty aisle and felt overwhelmed by synthetic fragrances, you’re not alone.
Conventional perfumes often contain dozens of mystery ingredients, many of which fall under the vague label “fragrance.”
After I learned how my headaches and migraines were probably from all the fragrance in my products, I started crafting my own essential oil perfumes years ago and haven’t looked back.
They are so easy to make and I love how I can always customize and change it up, even though I usually stick to my vanilla base since it’s my favorite!
This is a full on DIY essential oil perfume guide that includes everything you need to get started, two easy methods (carrier oil-based and spray perfume), plus four of my favorite essential oil blends.

Why Make Your Own Perfume with Essential Oils?
Crafting your own perfume lets you:
- Avoid synthetic chemicals and endocrine disruptors
- Choose scents that support your mood and energy
- Infuse intentionality and herbal wisdom into your everyday routine
Plus, essential oils don’t just smell good, they carry therapeutic benefits too.
Imagine a calming roll-on you swipe before bedtime or a bright citrus spray to refresh your mind midday.
They don’t just help you smell good, it goes way deeper than that.

Method 1: Roll-On Perfume Using Carrier Oil
This is one of the simplest ways to wear essential oils. The carrier oil dilutes the essential oils for skin safety and allows the scent to linger beautifully on the skin.
Ingredients
- 10 mL roller bottle
- 2 tsp carrier oil (jojoba or fractionated coconut oil are my go-tos)
- 10–15 drops essential oils (1–2% dilution for everyday use)
- Flowers (optional, rose petals or lavender work great)

Instructions
- Add essential oils to your roller bottle.
- If you are using flowers, add to the bottle as well, just for looks.
- Fill the rest with your chosen carrier oil.
- Cap, shake gently, and label.

Method 2: Essential Oil Perfume Spray
This version gives a light mist and works well on clothes, hair, or as a subtle body spray. It’s my favorite way to use a homemade essential oil perfume!
Ingredients
- 1 oz glass perfume bottle
- 1 oz perfumer’s alcohol
- 15–20 drops essential oils
- Flowers (optional, rose petals or lavender work great)

Instructions
- Add essential oils and alcohol to your spray bottle.
- If you are using flowers, add to the bottle as well, just for looks.
- Shake well before each use.

Tips for Customizing Your Own Scent
- Use top, middle, and base notes for balance. (Top notes fade first, base notes linger.)
- Let your blend sit for 24-48 hours before using so the scents can blend better.
- Always label your blends with the date and ingredients.
