DIY Coffee Body Butter Recipe

If you’ve been around long enough, you know I love my coffee infused oil. I use it in SO many things!

Lately, I’ve been making coffee lip balms and my homemade coffee lip scrub. I even have a face scrub with coffee that I made years ago and still use weekly!

So I knew I had to put tallow and coffee together to create a DIY coffee body butter. It was magical and worked perfectly for gifts!

Here is how to make your own with my super simple recipe to follow 🙂

Ingredients + Benefits

Here’s why this homemade coffee body butter is so good for your skin:

Coffee-Infused Oil: When used topically, the coffee infused oil gives your skin a small dose of antioxidants. Just infuse your favorite carrier oil (like almond or jojoba) with organic coffee grounds, your skin will thank you. It smells great!

I use rendered tallow in as many things as I possibly can. It has many vitamins that are good for your skin and provides endless benefits!

Shea Butter: Packed with vitamins A and E, shea butter deeply moisturizes and helps calm inflammation. It’s wonderful for sensitive or irritated skin and gives this body butter a luxurious, silky texture.

Cocoa Butter: Not only does it smell like chocolate (yum), but it’s also incredibly rich in fatty acids. Cocoa butter creates a protective barrier over the skin to lock in moisture and is especially helpful for scars or stretch marks. I personally prefer this over other butters!

Coffee Essential Oil & Vanilla Oleoresin: Together, they create that delicious warm scent. The coffee essential oil enhances circulation, while vanilla adds a sweet, comforting note.

Safety Note: Coffee essential oil is strong! Stick with the recommended number of drops, and always do a patch test if you’re prone to sensitivity.

DIY Coffee Body Butter Recipe

This recipe makes about 12 ounces of whipped body butter.

Ingredients

Instructions

Add ground coffee to a clean jar and cover with your carrier oil. Let it infuse for a few weeks, shaking occasionally. Strain using a cheesecloth or fine mesh.

In a double boiler, combine tallow shea butter, cocoa butter, and your infused oil. Stir occasionally until melted.

coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, and infused oil in a measuring cup.

Let the mixture cool until solid, this might take a few hours. Then use a hand mixer to whip until light and creamy (about 3-5 minutes).

Mix in the essential oils and vanilla. Whip again briefly to blend. Scoop into a clean glass jar or tin. Store in a cool place and use within 6 months.

Tip: This makes a sweet little DIY gift too. Just print on a label and you’re set!

Final Thoughts

Coffee body butter is one of those DIYs that feels fancy, but is actually SUPER simple. It gives your skin real benefits, like hydration, improved tone, and antioxidant support, without any questionable ingredients. And it smells like real coffee!!

  • ¼ cup cocoa butter
  • ¼ cup coffee infused oil (carrier oil and coffee beans needed)
  • 30 drops coffee essential oil
  • 18 drops vanilla oleoresin

Tools

  • Glass jar with lid
  • Double boiler or heat-safe bowl + saucepan
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer
  • Hand mixer
  • Measuring cups
  • Storage jar (12 oz)

Instructions

  1. Add your ground coffee to a clean, dry glass jar. Pour the carrier oil over the coffee until it’s fully covered. Stir gently to combine. Let sit for a few weeks, then strain the oil through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer to remove all coffee grounds. Alternatively, you can put in a double boiler for a few hours as well.
  2. Combine the coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, and infused oil in a double boiler or heat-safe bowl over simmering water. Stir occasionally until everything is fully melted.
  3. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool until it is all hard.
  4. Use a hand mixer to whip for 3-5 minutes until creamy.
  5. Then, add in your essential oils and whip again.
  6. Transfer into a clean jar or container with a lid.

Notes

  • Any carrier oil works. I used almond oil.
  •  You can use only shea butter or only cocoa butter if you prefer.
