DIY Coffee Lip Scrub Recipe
Most people use coffee for a wake me up in the morning, but my favorite way to use it is DIY skincare recipes!
I have a coffee face scrub that I use weekly, but this time I decided my lips needed help exfoliating too, so I tried a DIY coffee lip scrub, and it did not disappoint!
It’s simple, it’s energizing, and it smells like a cozy café. Even better? Every ingredient actually does something helpful for your skin 🙂 Here is my simple recipe to follow!

Herbal Benefits of This Coffee Lip Scrub
Let’s break down what each ingredient does for your lips:
Coffee-Infused Oil: Coffee is rich in antioxidants, which can help fight free radicals and support skin repair. When infused into a carrier oil, it also delivers gentle anti-inflammatory benefits. Great for lips that are chapped or weather-worn.
Ground Coffee: Adds a touch of exfoliation to buff away dead skin. Just enough grit to smooth your lips, not irritate them. The perfect balance!
Sugar: A natural humectant (which means it draws moisture into the skin), sugar also exfoliates while softening. It’s a gentle way to polish without being harsh.
Vanilla Oleoresin: Besides smelling amazing, vanilla has antioxidant and skin-soothing properties. It also adds a hint of natural sweetness, because why not? 🙂
Coffee Essential Oil: This one’s optional but so worth it. A few drops give your scrub a deep, roasty scent and can provide additional antioxidant perks too!
Safety Note: This scrub is safe for most skin types, but always do a small patch test if you’re using a new essential oil. And skip the essential oil entirely if you’re sensitive, especially during pregnancy or nursing.

DIY Coffee Lip Scrub Recipe
This makes about 3 ounces, perfect for gifting or keeping one in your bag and one by the sink!
Instructions
- 5 tablespoons coffee-infused oil
- 1 tablespoon finely ground coffee
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 8 drops vanilla oleoresin
- 7 drops coffee essential oil (optional)

Instructions
Add ground coffee to a clean, dry glass jar. Pour in your carrier oil until fully covered. Stir, then let sit for a few weeks. Strain using cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer. (In a hurry? Gently heat the jar in a double boiler for a few hours instead.)
Add essential oils to the infused oil and stir.

In a small bowl, combine sugar and ground coffee. Pour in your infused oil mixture and stir until the texture feels like wet sand, oily but not runny.

Transfer to a small glass jar with a lid. Label it and store in a cool, dry spot. Use within 3 months.

How To Use
I keep mine next to the bathroom sink and use it about twice a week. A tiny dab goes a long way.
Gently rub onto damp lips, rinse with warm water, and follow with a nourishing lip balm (like one from the Tallow Recipe eBook, if you’ve made your own!). Your lips will feel baby-soft.
Coffee Lip Scrub
A DIY coffee lip scrub that gently exfoliates and nourishes lips. Made with coffee grounds, sugar, and coffee-infused oil for smooth, soft, and kissable lips.
Materials
- 5 tbsp coffee-infused oil (any carrier oil, e.g., almond)
- 1 tbsp finely ground coffee
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 8 drops vanilla oleoresin
- 7 drops coffee essential oil
Tools
- Clean glass jar
- Small bowl
- Spoon or spatula
- Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer (if using infusion method)
- Double boiler (optional)
Instructions
- Add your ground coffee to a clean, dry glass jar. Pour the carrier oil over the coffee until it’s fully covered. Stir gently to combine. Let sit for a few weeks, then strain the oil through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer to remove all coffee grounds. Alternatively, you can put in a double boiler for a few hours as well.
- Add the essential oils to the infused oil.
- In a small bowl, mix together the coffee grounds and sugar until evenly combined.
- Pour in the coffee-infused oil and stir until the mixture forms a smooth, wet consistency. It should feel slightly oily but not runny.
- Transfer the scrub to a small glass jar with a lid. Label and store in a cool, dry place for up to 3 months.
Notes
- Any carrier oil works. I used almond oil.
- Use a double boiler to speed up the infusion process if you don’t want to wait weeks.
