DIY Pumpkin Spice Body Butter
This DIY pumpkin spice body butter is a cozy fall recipe your skin will love!
There’s something about the first cool breeze of fall that makes me want to cozy up, light a candle, and mix something warm and comforting in the kitchen, even if it’s not food.
Last October, I remember whipping up a batch of this pumpkin spice body butter on a rainy afternoon while my little ones napped.
The scent filled the house with spicy, sweet warmth, and when I rubbed it onto my dry hands later that night, it felt like giving my skin a hug.
This recipe has become one of my seasonal favorites. It’s simple, nourishing, and captures everything I love about autumn in a jar. Plus, it’s a great homemade gift to share with my friends!

Benefits of the Herbs & Ingredients
This whipped body butter blends rich, skin-loving oils with warm essential oils that not only smell amazing but also offer gentle topical benefits:
- Shea Butter: Deeply moisturizing and anti-inflammatory, shea butter is a powerhouse for dry, chapped, or irritated skin. It’s rich in vitamins A and E and helps restore the skin’s natural barrier.
- Carrier Oil (like almond, jojoba, or avocado oil): Carrier oils add even more moisture and help deliver the essential oils safely. I used jojoba oil, which absorbs beautifully and is high in fatty acids.
- Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil: Warms the skin and supports circulation. Use sparingly, as it’s a strong oil that can be irritating in large amounts.
- Nutmeg Essential Oil: Adds a sweet, comforting aroma and may offer mild anti-inflammatory support.
- Ginger Essential Oil: Known for its warming properties, ginger can help soothe sore muscles and invigorate the skin.
- Clove Essential Oil: Rich and spicy, clove oil is a natural antioxidant and has traditionally been used for its antimicrobial properties.
- Orange Mica Powder (optional): Adds a lovely seasonal glow without any synthetic ingredients.
Note: Essential oils are potent. Always perform a patch test before applying new blends and keep the dilution gentle. Cinnamon and clove, in particular, can be sensitizing for some skin types.

Whipped Pumpkin Spice Body Butter Recipe
Yields: about 8 ounces
Ingredients
- ½ cup shea butter
- 6 tablespoons carrier oil (I used jojoba oil)
- ¼ teaspoon orange mica powder (optional)
- 2 drops cinnamon leaf essential oil
- 1 drop nutmeg essential oil
- 1 drop ginger essential oil
- 1 drop clove essential oil

Instructions
Gently melt the shea butter and carrier oil together using a double boiler or heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water. Stir until fully combined.

Remove from heat and let the mixture chill in the refrigerator until firm but not rock hard (about 30 minutes).

Whip using a hand mixer until it becomes light and fluffy, like frosting.
Add essential oils and whip again to combine.

If desired, stir in the mica powder for a soft, orange glow.
Scoop into a clean, dry jar. Store in a cool spot away from direct sunlight.

A Few Tips
- You can swap shea butter for mango butter if you prefer a lighter feel.
- This body butter is free of preservatives, so avoid introducing water into the jar. Use clean, dry hands or a small spoon to scoop it out.
- If gifting, a little ribbon and a handwritten label go a long way in making it special.
