DIY Rosemary Scalp Scrub

I used to think scalp scrubs were just another beauty trend, until I made one myself. I was dealing with dry scalp, buildup from natural hair products, and an itchy scalp that just wouldn’t go away.

So I decided to try a homemade version with rosemary and sugar. It took just a few minutes to mix up, and the results were instant. My scalp felt fresh, clean, and my hair looked shinier, too!

Now I use this scrub about once a week as part of my hair-care routine, and I honestly look forward to it. It’s such a small way to feel grounded and cared for.

So I wanted to share my recipe in case you need a good DIY rosemary scalp scrub.

Benefits of Rosemary & Sugar for the Scalp

Rosemary is a favorite in hair care, and for good reason. It helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp, encouraging hair growth, clears away buildup and excess oil, and has natural antimicrobial properties that support scalp health.

Sugar makes a wonderful gentle exfoliant. It removes product buildup and dead skin cells easily and can help unclog hair follicles. It will leave your scalp feeling clean and refreshed without being too harsh which I love.

It also has a bit of a carrier oil to help protect the skin barrier while exfoliating. It will also add shine and hydration to the hair too!

I also add lavender and rosemary essential oils as both are great for scalp care. They support healthy hair growth, balance oil production, and smell beautifully fresh!

Notes

  • Essential oils are completely optional. The scrub is effective on its own, I just like the added benefits of the oils.
  • Any carrier oil you have on hand will work just fine.
  • You can also try lavender powder in place of or alongside rosemary for a calming, soothing variation.
