DIY Natural Bronzer
I finally made this DIY natural bronzer, because sometimes, we just want that healthy, sun-kissed glow without a single harsh chemical in sight!
This homemade version is silky, nourishing, and totally customizable to your skin tone. And yes, it smells faintly like chocolate (which is definitely a win for me)!
If you’ve ever peeked at the ingredients in conventional bronzers, you know they can be full of things you’d never want on your skin every day. This version? Just four simple ingredients, all plant- and earth-based!
Here is my homemade bronzer recipe for you to enjoy natural beauty products!

Why This Works
Here’s what’s inside:
- Cocoa powder: Offers natural pigment and a soft bronzing effect, plus it’s rich in antioxidants.
- Kaolin clay: Adds a smooth, blendable texture while helping to absorb excess oil. It’s ultra-gentle, even for sensitive skin.
- Shea butter: Moisturizing and skin-nourishing, shea butter helps the bronzer glide on smoothly and gives it a balm-like finish.
- Essential oil (optional): A drop or two of lavender or geranium adds a subtle floral scent and skincare benefits, but it’s totally up to you!

DIY Natural Bronzer (Cream Version)
This makes about 2 ounces.
Ingredients:
- 2 teaspoons kaolin clay
- 4 teaspoons cocoa powder (adjust to match your desired tone)
- 2 tablespoons shea butter
- 2 drops essential oil (optional, I did lavender)

How To Make Natural Bronzer
In a small bowl, whisk together cocoa powder and kaolin clay until fully blended. (If you want just a powder version, you can stop right here!)

Melt shea butter gently in a double boiler.

Once slightly cooled (but still liquid), stir in essential oil if using.

Pour the melted shea butter into your powder mixture and stir until smooth and uniform.

Spoon into your container and let it cool completely until firm.

Notes:
- Adjust the cocoa powder to suit your skin tone. Add more for a deeper bronzer or less for a subtle glow.
- This creates a cream-style bronzer. For a powder version, simply mix the clay and cocoa powder and store in a small jar with a sifter lid.
- Store in a cool, dry place. Shelf life is about 12ish months depending on ingredient freshness.
- Use fingers or a makeup sponge to dab and blend onto cheeks, forehead, or collarbones.

How I Use It:
I keep this bronzer in a small tin and swipe it on with clean fingers when I want to look a little more put together as a mom. It blends beautifully over bare skin or tallow foundation, and works great as a natural eyeshadow too!
