How to Make DIY Dryer Sheets
Now that we understand the benefits, let’s explore how to make homemade dryer sheets step by step.
Follow these instructions, and you’ll have your very own eco-friendly dryer sheets in no time:

Supplies
- Mason jar
- Old cotton t-shirt
- Scissors
- Distilled vinegar
- Essential oils (I like lavender and citronella)
Instructions
Cut your t-shirt into squares. Mine were about 4 inches by 4 inches.

Add 30 drops of your essential oil to the mason jar.
Add the fabric to the mason jar and fill the jar with distilled vinegar until you are almost to the top. Leave about an inch or two from the top.

Place the lid tightly onto the jar and then swirl the jar around to mix it all together. I let them sit overnight before use to make sure that they are saturated.

To use your DIY dryer sheets, simply grab a sheet from the container and toss it into the dryer with your load of laundry.
The vinegar in the sheets will help soften the fabrics and reduce static cling, while the essential oil will impart a subtle fragrance.

Dry your clothes as usual, and enjoy the benefits of your homemade dryer sheets.
The best part is that you can reuse them over and over again! Simply put the DIY fabric sheet back into your jar when you are finished. Refill your jar when needed.
DIY Natural Dryer Sheets FAQs
Are DIY dryer sheets safe to use for all types of fabrics?
Yes, DIY dryer sheets are generally safe to use for most fabrics, including cotton, polyester, and blends. However, it’s always a good idea to test a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric before using the dryer sheets on a larger scale.
Can I reuse DIY dryer sheets?
Yup! After using them in the dryer, simply place them back into the container, and they will be ready for the next load of laundry. When the scent starts to fade, you can refresh the sheets by adding a few more drops of essential oil.
Will the vinegar scent transfer to my clothes?
This is what I worried about the most when making my homemade dryer sheets. But, no, the vinegar scent will not transfer to your clothes. During the drying process, the vinegar evaporates, leaving behind a fresh aroma from the essential oils.
