Tips for Making the Best Coffee Bath Bombs
Here are a few tips for this DIY natural bath bomb recipe that may help with bath bomb troubleshooting:
- If you don’t want to clean up some coffee bits in your bath, try a coffee powder. Same results but it will melt in the water!
- For natural homemade bath bombs, you don’t want to use polysorbate 80. However, you will still want an emulsifier to help keep all the ingredients together. Some use witch hazel while others use alcohol, emulsifying wax, or shea butter.
- It is best to leave your bath bombs for at least overnight or 24 hours so they get hard enough. If it crumbles or doesn’t feel hard when you touch it, it won’t be ready.
- Adding coffee essential oil helps to enhance the smell, but is also beneficial too!

Supplies
- 2 cups baking soda (I like to buy in bulk)
- 1 cup citric acid
- 1/4 cup arrowroot powder
- 1/4 cup dead sea salts
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- Witch hazel
- 2 tablespoons ground coffee
- 10-20 drops of coffee essential oil (it’s kid safe too!)
- Bath bomb molds (I love this set)
- Spray bottle
- 1 large and 1 small mixing bowl

Directions
- In a large mixing bowl, add the baking soda, citric acid, arrowroot powder and dead sea salts. Afterward, whisk the dry ingredients together.

- Then, add the coconut oil. The coconut oil binds all the ingredients together, so your bath bombs have stability and don’t crumble when you touch them.
- Mix the coconut oil in thoroughly. You may need to use your hands to break down any lumps and to make sure everything is mixed in.
- You can spray witch hazel to help the mixture hold together. The mixture is perfect when it holds together when you press it into your hands and feels like wet sand.

- Add in 1 tablespoon ground coffee and the coffee essential oil. Mix well. Now you get to add them to the mold!

- Add a bit of the ground coffee to one side of a bath bomb mold. Gently add the bath bomb mixture to each side of the bath bomb mold until slightly overflowing.

- Over the smaller, empty bowl, press molds together and gently but firmly grind to remove any excess mixture. Gently tap mold to release the bombs. Allow to dry a minimum of 24 hours. If your climate is wet or cold, allow an additional 24 hours. My rule of thumb is that when it is hard to the touch, they are ready for the tub!

- Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months until ready for use.

Notes
- You can use cornstarch instead of arrowroot powder
- You can use Epsom salts as a substitute for the dead sea salts. Dead sea salts are more beneficial, but Epsom salts are great too.
- You also don’t have to use essential oils if you don’t want to, or you can add in other oils if you want.
- Any bath bomb mold will work, it all depends on what you want! You can change up the sizes until you find one you like.
