DIY Whipped Sugar Scrub
This DIY whipped sugar scrub is one of those beginner-friendly recipes that feels like a little luxury. It’s a creamy, exfoliating treat that leaves your skin silky smooth and lightly scented with your favorite essential oils.
And the best part? You can customize it based on the season, your skin’s needs, or the herbs you love most!
This is one of my absolute favorite sugar scrub recipe; you’ll want to make it too!

Why This Scrub Works
Here’s a quick list of all the ingredients I use and why they are so amazing for your skin:
Carrier Oil: The base of this scrub is a nourishing carrier oil. You can use something light like grapeseed or sweet almond oil, or go with something richer like jojoba or avocado.
If you have an herb-infused oil on hand, even better! Calendula-infused oil is usually my go-to!
Emulsifying Wax: This ingredient helps the scrub rinse off cleanly without leaving too much oil behind. It’s what gives the whipped texture that dreamy, lotion-like feel when you apply it.
Coconut Oil: Known for its antibacterial and moisturizing properties, coconut oil adds body to the scrub and helps whip it up into a fluffy consistency. It also firms up when cooled, helping the scrub hold its shape.
Essential Oils: This is where you can get creative. Lavender is a classic choice for relaxation and skin support. Peppermint feels cooling in the summer. Orange or lemon add a bright, uplifting scent. Just be mindful of skin safety, some citrus oils can make skin more sensitive to sunlight.
This time around, I used Downtime, a blend of Bergamot, Frankincense, Ho Wood, Lavender, and Marjoram Essential Oils. It is so relaxing!
Sugar: The star exfoliator. Fine white sugar is gentle enough for most skin types and does a great job sloughing off dead skin without being harsh.

How to Make It
This made around 6-8 ounces.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup carrier oil (I used calendula infused oil)
- 4 teaspoon emulsifying wax
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- 30 drops essential oils (I used Downtime Blend)
- ½ cup sugar
P.S. You can get all these ingredients and SO MUCH MORE (minus the sugar, which you probably already have at home) in the Simply Earth Bath and Spa Hero Kit. Use code KATE10 for 10% off!

Instructions
In a double boiler or heat-safe bowl over simmering water, melt together the carrier oil, emulsifying wax, and coconut oil until fully combined.

Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
Using a hand mixer, whip the cooled mixture until it becomes fluffy, like frosting.
Add essential oils and whip again to blend.

Gently fold in the sugar using a spatula or spoon.
Transfer to a clean jar and label it.

Notes
- Store in the fridge if you live in a warm climate, as the coconut oil can melt.
- Skip the essential oils if you prefer an unscented version or have sensitive skin.
- Feel free to adjust the sugar for a more or less scrubby texture.

Personal Tip:
I like to keep a jar of this scrub by the kitchen sink for those moments when my hands need extra love after gardening or doing dishes. It’s a quick way to feel pampered and refreshed in just a few seconds.
