Homemade Oil Pulling Cubes Recipe

If you’ve ever tried oil pulling with straight coconut oil from the jar, you probably noticed one small problem. It melts quickly in your mouth and can feel a little messy to measure every time and let’s be honest, it doesn’t take the best haha.

That’s why I love making these simple homemade oil pulling cubes. They’re pre-portioned, easy to grab in the morning, and infused with herbs that have traditionally been used to support oral health, AND make it taste a lot better 🙂

Oil pulling itself is an ancient practice that has been used for generations to help clean the mouth and support healthy teeth and gums. These herbal coconut oil cubes make the process even easier! Here’s my recipe so you can make some too!

Benefits of the Ingredients

Coconut oil is one of the most popular oils for oil pulling because it contains natural antimicrobial properties that help reduce bacteria in the mouth.

Cloves have traditionally been used in herbal dental care to support gum health and help soothe minor tooth discomfort. We use it in our teething herbal extract and LOVE it for tooth pain.

Cinnamon has natural antibacterial properties and adds a warm flavor to the oil pulling blend. I love the flavor it brings out!

Peppermint helps freshen breath and gives the cubes a refreshing taste.

Essential oils are optional but can add extra flavor or freshness depending on the oils you choose. I choose not to use essential oils, but that’s just my preference 🙂

Place the jar in a double boiler and simmer on low heat for a few hours. Stir occasionally.

Once the oil has infused, strain out the herbs.

If using essential oils, add them to the melted coconut oil and stir well.

While the coconut oil is still liquid, pour it into a silicone mold.

Place the mold in the freezer for about one hour until the cubes harden.

How To Use

Place one or two cubes in your mouth and allow them to melt.

Swish the oil around your mouth for up to 20 minutes, then spit it out. Do not swallow the oil!

It’s best to spit the oil into the trash rather than the sink to avoid clogging pipes.

Notes

  • Essential oils are optional in this recipe.
  • Store the cubes in a cool place or refrigerator, especially if your home is warm, since coconut oil melts easily. I keep mine in the freezer.
  • If you’re new to oil pulling, start with 5-10 minutes and gradually work up to 20 minutes.
  • Oil pulling works best when done in the morning before eating or drinking. I usually take mine out of the freezer and swish while I make my breakfast.
