Homemade Golden Milk Recipe

A few years ago, I tried golden milk with my grandma. We both had heard about it before and wanted to try it, but never did, so we jumped up and did right in that moment.

It wasn’t awful but not as delicious as we were expecting. But, because I knew how amazing the benefits are, I tried again and again until I finally created a recipe I love!

If you’ve never tried golden milk before, this simple blend of spices and milk is not only delicious but also rooted in centuries of traditional herbal wisdom. It’s soothing, nourishing, and incredibly easy to make at home.

Here is my homemade golden milk recipe for you to enjoy!

Why Golden Milk is So Healing

Golden milk isn’t just a pretty drink. Its ingredients come together to create a deeply calming and restorative tonic, especially helpful in the evening hours.

Here are a few of those benefits:

  • Turmeric: Known for its bright yellow color and anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is often used to support joint health, digestion, and immune function. It contains curcumin, a powerful compound that’s been studied for everything from brain support to calming inflammation in the body.
  • Cinnamon: This warming spice doesn’t just taste amazing, it also supports blood sugar balance! Plus, it is what makes this quite delicious!
  • Ginger: Just a pinch of this spicy root helps support digestion, ease tension, and gently stimulate circulation. It’s especially helpful if you’re feeling chilled or sluggish. I love a ginger tea!
  • Milk: Whether you use almond, oat, coconut, or regular milk, the creamy base helps carry the fat-soluble compounds in the spices, making them easier for your body to absorb. I usually use oat milk but have tried with cow’s milk as well.

Easy Homemade Golden Milk Recipe

Here is my simple golden milk recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup regular or plant-based milk (almond, coconut, or oat work well)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • Splash of vanilla extract (optional)
ingredients for golden milk

Instructions

Pour your milk of choice into a small saucepan and place over medium heat. Add turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger. Stir continuously to blend the spices well.

heating up the milk

Allow the mixture to heat gently for about 3-5 minutes, stirring often. Don’t let it boil, just warm it until it’s steaming. Then remove from heat.

Stir in your sweetener to taste, and add vanilla if desired.

adding in the honey and vanilla

Pour into a mug and enjoy immediately while it’s warm and comforting.

I usually sip mine about an hour before bed, especially if the day has been emotionally heavy or physically tiring. It feels like it wraps your nervous system in a little quilt of warmth.

Notes

  • If you’re new to herbal drinks, start with a little less turmeric and ginger. You can always add more as your taste adjusts.
  • Maple syrup can be swapped for honey or left out completely if you’re avoiding sweeteners. Just add it after heating, especially if using raw honey.
  • A small pinch of black pepper helps your body absorb turmeric better. Optional, especially if you’re focusing on the anti-inflammatory benefits.
  • Try not to boil the milk, just heat until steaming. Boiling can cause it to separate or form a skin (which is still safe, just not as smooth).
