DIY Rosemary Hair Spray
I don’t know about you, but some days my hair needs a little pep talk. After summer sun, dry winter air, or just too much mom-life (hello, messy buns on repeat), I start craving something simple and natural to give my scalp some love. Enter: this DIY rosemary hair spray!
It’s quick to make, smells amazing, and helps support stronger, shinier hair, without a single synthetic ingredient in sight.

DIY Rosemary Hair Spray Recipe
This makes about 1 cup (8 oz), enough to fill a standard spray bottle:
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons dried rosemary OR ¼ cup fresh rosemary
- 5 drops of lavender essential oil
- 5 drops of rosemary essential oil
- 8 ounce spray bottle
Instructions
Boil a small pot of water.
Add the rosemary leaves and let them steep until the water cools down and turns a rich tea color. Then strain.
If you’re using essential oils, add and mix well.
Pour your rosemary infusion into the spray bottle.
To Use: Spray onto damp hair after your shower. No need to rinse, just style as usual!
Notes
- Essential oils are optional, but do give some added benefits.
- Try adding in some lavender flowers too!
Shelf Life
Without preservatives:
- Using dried rosemary: Store in the fridge and use within 2 weeks.
- Using fresh rosemary: Use within 1 week (fresh herbs can introduce more moisture and bacteria).
With natural preservatives:
- If you want it to last longer at room temp (like in the bathroom), you’ll need to add a natural preservative, such as:
- Leucidal Liquid SF: Add at 2-4% of the total recipe for up to 3 months shelf life.
- Geogard ECT: Another natural option with broad-spectrum protection, and what I normally use for a 3 months shelf life.
