DIY Candy Corn Sugar Scrub Recipe

I always LOVED candy corn as a kid. I know it’s a huge debate whether people like them or not. But I decided to not eat them this year, but use them as inspiration for my DIY candy corn sugar scrub recipe!

That yellow, orange, and white layered look is SO satisfying. So I got to work making some fun candy corn beauty recipes to share with family and friends, and on here of course! I made some candy corn bath salts too that turned out great!

I’ve been making body scrubs for a few years now, mostly simple ones with whatever I had on hand. Sugar scrubs were one of the first things I learned to make back when I was just getting into natural living and trying to swap out the store-bought stuff.

They’re genuinely easy, they work, and they make the BEST gifts. This one is a little extra because of the layering, but it’s not hard!

The candy corn look comes together with colored mica powder, and the scent, it smells like fall in the best way. Here’s exactly how I made this homemade candy corn sugar scrub.

Benefits

This is mainly for fun, but here are a few benefits of sugar scrubs:

  • White sugar is a gentle physical exfoliant. It buffs away dead skin without being too harsh, which is why it’s such a common base for DIY scrubs. It also dissolves in water, so there’s no gritty residue left behind the way there can be with some other scrubs.
  • The carrier oil is doing a lot of quiet work here. It moisturizes as you scrub, so your skin doesn’t feel stripped when you rinse off. Any skin-friendly oil works. I went with my vanilla infused oil.
  • I used a candy corn essential oil blend from Jade Bloom and it smells SO good. Such an uplifting oil!

DIY Candy Corn Sugar Scrub Recipe

Makes about 8 ounces

Ingredients

Instructions

Combine the carrier oil with the essential oils.

Pour the oil mixture into the sugar and stir until fully and evenly coated.

Split into 3 containers. Keep the white sugar scrub as is, and only add a bit to the bowl.

Add some mica powder to the other 2, yellow and orange, until you get your desired colors.

Spoon into a jar, starting with yellow.

Then orange, and a small white bit on the top.

Notes

  • Use a dry spoon each time to keep water out of the jar and it’ll stay fresh for months.
  • Be careful what carrier oil you use. The first time I made this, I used a dandelion infused oil, and it turned the sugar yellow! I needed to make a new batch for the white bit on top.
  • If you don’t want to get that specific blend, 12 drops of orange essential oil and 8 drops of vanilla worked great as well.

How to Use It

Scoop a small amount out with a dry spoon and apply to damp skin in the shower. Massage it in with gentle circular motions, then rinse well.

This recipe makes enough to fill a few small jars, which makes it perfect for gifting! Four ounce mason jars look adorable with the layers showing through the glass.

Storage is simple: keep the lid on tight, use that dry spoon every time, and it’ll last for months without any issues. Don’t leave in the shower, that creates mold fast!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup carrier oil
  • 12 drops sweet orange essential oil
  • 8 drops vanilla oleoresin
  • Yellow and orange mica powder (for coloring)

Instructions

  1. Combine the carrier oil with the essential oils.
  2. Pour the oil mixture into the sugar and stir until fully and evenly coated.
  3. Split into 3 containers. Keep one portion as white sugar scrub. Add yellow mica powder to one portion and orange mica powder to another, until you get your desired colors.
  4. Spoon into a jar, starting with yellow, then orange, and a small white bit on the top.

Notes

Use a dry spoon each time to keep water out of the jar and it will stay fresh for months. Because of the citrus oil, avoid using on skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight. Those with very sensitive skin, open cuts, or irritated patches should wait before using any physical exfoliant. Pregnant women should check with their provider before using essential oils on skin regularly.

Final Thoughts

I made a batch of these last October and gave them out to a few of my friends. Wrapped them in little cellophane bags with a candy corn taped to the front. It was genuinely the most low-effort, high-impact thing I made all season.

The candy corn scrub smells incredible, the layers look beautiful, and people CANNOT believe it’s homemade!

I’m already making my candy cane sugar scrub for Christmas now too; it follows the same pattern of layering.

If you make this one, let me know how your layers turn out!
