DIY Orange Shower Steamers Recipe

You step into the shower hoping it will wake you up, but sometimes it takes more than hot water to shake off a sleepy morning. That’s where a little aromatherapy can make a big difference!

These DIY orange shower steamers are one of the easiest ways to turn a regular shower into an energizing experience. As the steamer slowly dissolves, it releases bright citrus aroma into the steam, filling your bathroom with that fresh, uplifting scent of oranges.

I was so excited to make these and I use it daily. I’ve already made 3 batches! It just makes my shower experience SO much better.

They’re simple to make, require only a handful of ingredients, and are perfect for anyone who enjoys essential oils and natural DIY products.

I especially love making a batch during the colder months when mornings feel extra sluggish. That burst of citrus scent really helps wake up the senses, but yet, I feel so calm at the same time.

Here’s my favorite homemade orange shower steamer recipe!

Aromatherapy Benefits of Orange

Sweet orange essential oil is one of the most beginner-friendly oils to work with! I bet you even have it in your home already!! It has a cheerful scent and blends beautifully with many other oils.

In aromatherapy, orange essential oil is often used for:

• Supporting an uplifting mood
• Helping boost energy and alertness
• Freshening indoor spaces naturally
• Creating a bright, clean scent in DIY products

Orange peel powder also adds a gentle citrus scent and contains natural plant compounds from the fruit itself.

DIY Orange Shower Steamers Recipe

Here’s my simple orange shower steamer recipe. It made about 10 if using the same mold:

Ingredients

How To Make Orange Shower Steamers

In a bowl, mix the baking soda and Epsom salts until well combined.

Stir the orange peel powder into the dry mixture. Add a small amount of orange mica powder and mix until the color is evenly distributed.

Slowly drizzle in the water while stirring continuously. The mixture should feel like slightly damp sand and hold together when pressed.

Add the orange essential oil and mix thoroughly so the scent is evenly distributed.

Firmly press the mixture into a silicone mold.

Let the steamers dry and harden for at least 24 hours.

Once fully dry, gently remove them from the mold and store in an airtight container.

That’s it! Super easy and fun to make. My daughter enjoyed making them with me, she’s seven so it really is that simple!

Notes

  • Shelf life: Shower steamers typically last several months when stored in a dry, airtight container.
  • Storage: Keep them away from humidity so they don’t start dissolving before you use them. I keep mine in a glass jar on the bathroom counter.
  • If your mixture feels too dry to hold together, add water a few drops at a time. If it feels too wet, add a little more baking soda.

How to Use

Place one steamer on the shower floor away from the direct stream of water. As it slowly gets wet, it will release the citrus aroma into the steam.
