DIY Neosporin with Healing Herbs

There’s something so reassuring about having a little jar of healing salve on hand. Whether it’s for scraped knees, bug bites, or kitchen burns, this simple herbal “DIY Neosporin” is a must-have in our house. The best part? You can make it yourself with just a few herbs, some oil, and beeswax!

My kids get scrapes and owies all day long. This is the cream I love using for them. I feel confident knowing I made it and it will work wonderfully to help their body heal naturally. What more can I ask for!

If you’re looking for a natural alternative to petroleum-based ointments, this herbal Neosporin recipe is gentle, effective, and powered by three skin-loving herbs that have been trusted for generations 🙂

Herbal Benefits

Each herb in this blend brings its own healing power. Here is why I chose each herb to be in this homemade healing cream:

  • Plantain: Not the banana cousin, this green leafy weed is known as “nature’s bandage.” It draws out toxins, soothes inflammation, and helps speed healing.
  • Comfrey: Famous for its skin-repairing properties, comfrey encourages tissue regeneration and soothes damaged skin. (Use only externally, especially on closed wounds.)
  • Calendula: A bright and cheerful flower that’s beloved for its antimicrobial and skin-soothing abilities. Calendula gently reduces inflammation and supports the healing process. I ALWAYS have calendula infused oil in my cabinet. It is my favorite herb by far!

These herbs work together to calm, soothe, and restore skin, naturally and safely.

DIY Herbal Neosporin Salve Recipe

Makes about 4-5 ounces.

Ingredients

Herbal Neosporin ingredients.

Instructions

First make the infused oil by adding equal amounts of comfrey, calendula, and plantain. Pour carrier oil over to completely cover it, then let sit for 6 weeks. Then, strain.

Add the infused oil and beeswax to a glass container and slowly melt in a double boiler.

Let cool slightly, then add in the essential oils.

Pour into your containers until it is hard.

Notes:

  • Essential oils are totally optional. Lavender adds calming, skin-loving properties. Tea tree brings antimicrobial support. Just make sure they’re safe for skin and kid-safe if using with young children.
  • Stored in a cool, dry place, this salve should last 6-12 months.
  • Small metal tins or glass jars work well. Keep one in your purse, your car, or the diaper bag!
