DIY Lavender Wax Melts Recipe
If you love the cozy feeling of a candle but don’t always want an open flame, wax melts are a great alternative! They give your home the same warm fragrance while working with a simple wax warmer instead of a burning wick.
These DIY lavender wax melts worked great for us while we were living in an apartment and couldn’t use candles.
Making your own wax melts is also surprisingly easy! With just a few ingredients like soy wax, essential oils, and dried lavender flowers, you can create beautiful homemade wax melts that help your house smell SO good with ease.
These homemade lavender wax melts are perfect for relaxing evenings, freshening up a room, or adding a gentle herbal scent to your home. They also make the BEST DIY gifts!

Benefits of the Ingredients
• Soy wax is a clean-burning, plant-based wax that melts smoothly and holds fragrance well.
• Lavender essential oil adds a naturally calming scent that many people enjoy in the evening or during quiet moments at home. We LOVE lavender essential oil in our home!
• Lavender flowers add a beautiful decorative touch and help give the melts a natural herbal look. I did this when I gave these as homemade gifts.
• Candle dye flakes add color and make the wax melts more visually appealing, especially when using fun molds. No actual benefits, it was just for fun 🙂

DIY Lavender Wax Melts Recipe
Here is how to make these DIY lavender wax melts:
Ingredients
- Lavender flowers
- 1 cup soy wax
- Chunk of color candle dye flakes
- 1-2 teaspoons of lavender essential oil
- Wax melt container

Instructions
Melt the soy wax and candle dye together in a double boiler on the stove until completely melted.
Allow the wax to cool for a few minutes.

Add the essential oils and stir well.

Carefully pour the melted wax into your wax melt mold or container.

Sprinkle lavender flowers on top of the wax.

Allow the wax melts to harden completely, which usually takes a few hours.

To Use
Place one or two wax melts into your wax melt warmer and allow them to slowly melt and release their fragrance!

Notes:
- Essential oils can be adjusted depending on how strong you want the scent to be.
- Lavender flowers are optional, but they add a beautiful herbal look to the wax melts 🙂
- Any mold will work for this recipe! Silicone molds are especially helpful because the wax melts pop out easily once hardened.
- Dried flowers are safe to use in wax melts because they are warmed rather than exposed to an open flame.
Lavender Wax Melts
Fragrant lavender wax melts made with soy wax, essential oils, and dried lavender flowers. These melts release a calming floral scent when warmed in a wax warmer.
Materials
- Lavender flowers
- 1 cup soy wax
- Chunk of color candle dye flakes
- 1-2 teaspoons of essential oil
Tools
- Double boiler, heat-safe bowl
- Spoon or spatula
- Measuring cup
- Wax melt mold or container
Instructions
- Melt the wax and candle dye in a double broiler on the stove until completely melted.
- Wax for it to cool for a few minutes. Then add in your essential oils.
- Pour into your wax melt container. Then add in your lavender flowers.
- Wait for it to get hard, which takes a few hours.
Notes
- Add essential oils when the wax cools to about 140–150°F (60–65°C). Adding them too early can cause the fragrance to evaporate and weaken the scent.
Final Thoughts
Making homemade wax melts is a fun and simple DIY project that lets you create natural home fragrance without relying on synthetic candles or store-bought melts.
Lavender is my favorite herb to use in these melts because its scent is gentle, calming, and widely loved. Once you try this recipe, you can easily experiment with other essential oils and dried herbs to create your own custom scents!
I also made a homemade rose wax melt recipe that is nice for Valentine’s Day.
Natural living doesn’t always have to be complicated. Sometimes it can be as simple as filling your home with the comforting scent of herbs you made yourself 🙂
