Benefits of DIY Fabric Refresher

Here are a few of my favorite benefits to making your own homemade fabric refresher:

  1. Cost-Effectiveness: One of the most compelling reasons to opt for a DIY fabric freshener is its cost-effectiveness. Commercial fabric sprays can be quite pricey, especially if you have a large household or frequently need to refresh fabrics.

Making your own allows you to save significant money in the long run while achieving the same, if not better, results.
  2. Customizability: When you create your own homemade fabric freshener, you have full control over the ingredients used.

This means you can tailor the scent and potency to suit your preferences. Whether you prefer a light floral aroma or a zesty citrus burst, the choice is yours.
  3. Environmentally Friendly: Many store-bought fabric refreshers contain harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances that can be harmful to both your health and the environment.

By making your own clothes deodorizer spray using natural ingredients, you can reduce your carbon footprint and promote a healthier living environment for you and your loved ones.
  4. Reduced Allergens: Homemade natural fabric refreshers often utilize ingredients such as essential oils, which not only impart a pleasant scent but also possess antimicrobial properties.

Spritzing your fabrics with a homemade solution can help reduce allergens, dust mites, and bacteria, creating a cleaner and fresher indoor atmosphere.

DIY Fabric Refresher Recipe

Now that you know some of the benefits of a DIY fabric spray, here is how to make your own fabric freshener:

Supplies

Instructions

Pour the rubbing alcohol into the glass spray bottle.

Next pour 2 tablespoons of baking soda into the spray bottle.

The mixture will fizz a little and that’s normal.

Add in your drops of lavender essential oil (you can use another scent, I prefer this for my clothes).

Next fill the rest of the bottle with water. You might have to mix it up or shake it to combine all the ingredients.

Tips and Tricks

Here are some tips to making this DIY fabric refresher without vinegar:

  • You can use any essential oil you prefer. Sometimes I like the calming scent of lavender, but lately, I actually really love using citronella. I know it sounds weird, but just try it; you’ll be hooked like me!
  • You’ll probably have to shake it before using to make sure everything is combined and so it works properly.
  • Don’t plan on using your clothes freshener spray right away. You will want the baking soda to dissolve a bit before spraying. If you use it right away, it might get the nozzle clogged.

There are so many ways to use this essential oil fabric refresher; not only does it work well on clothes, but try it out on the following:

    1. On Upholstery: Give your couch, chairs, and curtains a quick spritz to eliminate odors and freshen up the fabric between washes. Be sure to test a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility with the fabric.

It is the best DIY fabric refresher for couch I’ve used in a long time! To be honest, I use it here more than my clothes.

    5. In the Car: Say goodbye to unpleasant odors in your car by spraying fabric refresher onto upholstery, floor mats, and fabric surfaces. This is particularly useful for eliminating lingering food, pet, or smoke odors.
