DIY Lemon Sink Cleaner Recipe
If your kitchen sink has seen better days, and smells like it too, this easy DIY lemon sink cleaner is going to change your cleaning routine in the best way!
My kitchen sink at my old apartment always seemed to smell SO bad. Nothing I did seem to fix it. So I researched and came up with my own homemade sink cleaner recipe. And it worked GREAT!
It’s natural, effective, and smells like sunshine thanks to the lemon peel and essential oils 🙂 No harsh chemicals, no plastic bottle guilt, just a fresh citrusy scrub that works hard and feels satisfying to use.
Plus it is SO easy to make! I had to share my lemon sink cleaner recipe with you.
Why Lemon?
Lemon is one of my favorite natural cleaning elements! It’s not just about the scent (though that’s a huge plus)!
Lemon peel is naturally antimicrobial, deodorizing, and gently abrasive, perfect for cleaning sinks and surfaces without damaging them.
When paired with baking soda and castile soap, you get a gentle-but-tough scrub that lifts grime, tackles stains, and leaves everything sparkling clean!
Safety Tip: Lemon essential oil can be photosensitizing, but that’s not a concern when using it in a cleaner like this. Just don’t use it directly on skin before sun exposure.

DIY Lemon Sink Cleaner Recipe
Makes around 10 oz
Ingredients:
- 1 cup baking soda
- ½ tablespoon castile soap
- ½ teaspoon lemon essential oil
- 4 tablespoons lemon peel powder
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the baking soda and lemon peel powder.
- Stir in the castile soap and mix well.
- Add the lemon essential oil and stir thoroughly until the mixture resembles a gritty paste.
- Store in an airtight jar or container!
How to Use:
Sprinkle a spoonful directly into your sink. Scrub with a sponge and a little water until clean. Rinse well. Your sink will sparkle, and your kitchen will smell like lemons!
Notes:
- Scrub using half a lemon instead of a sponge for extra citrus cleaning power!
- You can swap the lemon peel powder for fresh lemon zest, but it will shorten the shelf life. If using, I would half the recipe and use it up within a few days.
- Works best on stainless steel sinks. Avoid using on marble or natural stone (acidic ingredients like lemon can etch them).
- Shelf life: Store in a cool, dry place and use within 3 months.
