Learn how to make your own DIY rose oil! Rose infused oil has some amazing benefits for your skin and hair, and it’s so easy to make!

Rose oil is something everyone should have in their home. Renowned for its soothing properties, delicate aroma, and skin-nourishing benefits, rose oil can add so much to your skincare or self-care regimen.

This was one of the very first infused oils I ever tried. I could not believe how well it helped with my face and skin health, I always keep this rose infused oil in my home!

Creating your own DIY rose oil is not only cost-effective but also allows you to ensure the quality and purity of it as well.

Rose essential oil is very expensive, as are most rose products at the store. But they often contain some pretty harsh chemicals. You can easily make your own infused rose oil and it is super cheap too!

Here’s everything you need to know about making rose oil at home.

Benefits of Rose Oil

Here are some of the potential benefits of using homemade rose oil:

1. Hydration and Moisturization: Rose oil is packed with natural emollients that help hydrate and lock in moisture, leaving your skin soft and glowing.

2. Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Its soothing qualities make it ideal for calming irritated or sensitive skin.

3. Antioxidant Rich: Rose oil contains powerful antioxidants that help protect the skin from environmental stressors and promote a youthful complexion. This is why I use it in my favorite rose tallow face cream.

4. Aromatherapeutic Benefits: The aroma of roses is known to reduce stress and anxiety, making rose oil a great addition to your relaxation routine.

5. Multi-Use Versatility: Rose oil can be used as a facial oil, massage oil, hair oil, or even as a base for homemade cosmetics.

Ingredients for DIY Rose Oil

The nice thing is you only need two ingredients to create your own rose infused oil:

  • Dried Rose Petals: Opt for organic dried rose petals to ensure there are no pesticides or chemicals. You can also use fresh petals, but they must be thoroughly cleaned and dried to prevent spoilage.
  • Carrier Oil: Choose a light, neutral oil such as jojoba, sweet almond, or avocado oil. I usually use avocado oil but if you specifically want a rose oil for your face, jojoba would be great.

How to Make DIY Rose Infused Oil

If using fresh petals, make sure they are fully dry to avoid introducing moisture into the oil, which can cause mold.

Fill a glass jar with rose petals and pour your carrier oil over them until the petals are fully submerged.

Seal the jar and place it in a sunny spot for 2-3 weeks. Gently shake the jar every few days to help the petals infuse into the oil.

You can also keep it on your kitchen counter if you don’t have a sunny spot. This is usually how I do it.

infusing rose oil

After the infusion period, strain the oil using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove the petals.

Transfer the rose oil into a clean, dark glass bottle and store it in a cool, dry place.

Notes

  • If you are not going to use the rose infused oil right away, keep infusing it for a few more weeks. This makes it even better! Sometimes I leave my jars up to 8 weeks.
  • You can add in some essential oils after if you want to make a DIY face serum.
